Anna Nicole Smith

It is a well known fact that glamour and fame have killed many Hollywood stars, Anna Nicole Smith being no exception. In life and even in death, Smith has been involved in numerous court battles, the latest directly affecting the people who had been her closest friends, until her untimely death in February of 2007.

Howard K. Stern, Smith’s manager, lawyer and boyfriend, was found guilty of two conspiracy counts. Despite his lawyer’s explanation, Stern had to have known that using his name on Smith’s prescriptions was illegal.

Obviously, Stern was a very close and dedicated friend and although, he was wrong in obtaining Smith’s medications by fraud, can he really be blamed for helping a desperate woman to overcome her pain?! Stern should be treated with compassion and be sentenced under a misdemeanor and not felony guidelines.

Dr. Sandeep Kapoor, who prescribed sedatives and opiates to Smith, was acquitted. On the other hand, Smith’s psychiatrist, Dr. Khristine Eroshevich, should be held to a higher standard and face harsher sentencing as a medical provider. No medical professional should use fraud when prescribing or dispensing medications to a patient.

Overall, the jury has heard the evidence and came out with verdicts which appear to be fair and just.
